The gap
What we are missing.
Docklands was planned as a waterfront address and filled up with young renters, international students and new arrivals. Most of what a young person needs sits just outside the postcode boundary.
Harbour Esplanade, 5 September 2026
No secondary school. Docklands Primary runs Prep to Grade 6 only. Every teenager here leaves the postcode for school.
No youth service based here. The council's services for 12–25s run from Carlton, North Melbourne and the CBD. Not one of them is based inside the postcode.
No skate park. Docklands has Australia's largest ice arena and nowhere to skateboard. The nearest are Riverslide at Alexandra Gardens, Northbank, and JJ Holland Park in Kensington.
No community house. Docklands Neighbourhood House, which co-ran the first Diwali here, has not operated since 2024. Nothing has replaced it.
This is the record. It is kept in public so that councils, schools, clubs and funders can see the same four lines we do — and so that anyone who can close one of them knows exactly where to start.
What closes the gap
Nothing here is fixed.
Every one of those four lines has been closed somewhere else by a group of people who decided to. Partner with us on programs based inside the postcode, or join the crew that keeps this record.
